Our friends at Minneapolis-based agency, mono create imaginative, wonderfully designed work for their clients. We've enjoyed partnering with them in the past, and it's safe to say that this particular project is our most adorable collaboration to date.
It turns out that when the fine creative minds of mono aren't dreaming up amazing projects for their own clients (blu dot swap meet anyone?), they're writing children's books! OK, they wrote a children's book — but this isn't just any children's book. This is an animated adventure in bravery, a wee warrior's guide to battling the ominous in everyday life. This is Penny Finds Her Brave.
The story of Penny is much too grand for print. To fully immerse readers in Penny's world, we needed to go big. We needed to go iPad.
Optimized for iPad, iPad 2 and the latest iPad's retina display, our illustrations come to life like they never could on paper. Even better, the entire app design, development and story illustration was completed by one very talented Sevnthsinner, Scott Agrimson. Scott's skill set in both the illustration and development worlds composed a seamless user experience within a beautiful interface. Almost half of the pages within the story contain hidden bursts of fun, whether in animation or soundbite form.
What makes Penny Finds Her Brave extra special arethe additional bravery-inducing features. The animated nightlight brings Penny's pal Seymour right to your child's bedside table, putting any fear of the dark at ease and reminding them just how brave they are, even when it's a little spooky outside.
Placing your hand on the Bravery Scanner triggers a personal reading, along with words of encouragement to continue the quest for bravery.
After debuting the application in New York, design and consumer publications alike featured Penny Finds Her Brave as a clever way to help kids find the bravery that already exists within.
